Super foods are those which are high in nutrients or phyto-chemicals and provide a host of health benefits. In this post let us discuss five essential super foods.

Low fat yogurt
 
It adds years to your life. Good quality yogurt contains living bacteria which provides a lot of health benefits. Yogurt enhances immune response, lowers bad cholesterol and raises the level of good cholesterol. Calcium rich foods help in lowering body fat and yogurt helps to burn boy fat at a faster rate.

It helps in bone formation and is essential for growing girls. Yogurt contains lactobacillus bacterium which heals and prevents arthritis. It protects against ulcers, colorectal cancer, prevents bad breath and improves oral health.

Eggs
It has high quality protein and boosts brain health. The choline present in egg increase brain function reduces inflammation there by reducing the likelihood of osteoporosis, cognitive decline, Alzheimer’s disease and type 2 diabetes.

Eggs when included for breakfast promote weight loss. It is good for nervous system; eggs are a good source of B vitamins the ones which improve heart health. It increases your cholesterol profile and protects eyesight.

Nuts
 
Most nuts contain heart healthy substances. The omega 3 fatty acids present in nuts prevent dangerous heart rhythms which can lead to heart attack. Nuts help to reduce cholesterol and prevent diabetes. The vitamin E present in nuts stops the development of plaque in arteries which can lead to heart attack.

Nuts contain plant sterols which lower cholesterol and L arginine which prevents blood clots. You should always eat nuts in moderation. Almonds, hazel nuts, peanuts, pecans and some pine nuts pistachio and walnuts are very good for heart health. A word of caution, nuts coated with chocolate, salt and sugar are not good for health.


Kiwi

The phyto nutrients in kiwi protect DNA. Kiwi protects children from respiratory related health problems including wheezing, shortness of breath and night coughing. It is rich in antioxidants and reduces conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, asthma, prevents colon cancer, atherosclerosis and diabetic heat diseases.

Kiwi is a good source of fiber which reduces high cholesterol, protects against asthma and macular degeneration. It is good for eyes and prevents age related macular degeneration. It reduces blood clots, triglycerides and protects cardiovascular health.




Broccoli

It contains anti-inflammatory, antioxidant; detox support and anti cancer nutrients. Broccoli helps to prevent cancer. For this to take effect about half  of a cup of broccoli should be added to your diet every day. It is very effective in protecting your digestive health. It improves heart health by reducing the risk of stroke and heart attacks.

Broccoli helps to reduce cholesterol. It contains compounds that are good for the eye. Broccoli is very good for the skin especially sun damaged skin. It prevents vitamin D deficiency.
